Huh. It appears that even as an Southeast Asian living in actual Asia, the Westernization of my country and culture still affects my stereotypes.
When it hit me exactly that they were farmers, I had thought: Huh. Weird. Japanese farmers. In my mind I pictured Texan, Ohioan(?) type people as farmers, and Japanese people far from that stereotype. Or really tanned type Asians rather than the Murakamis.
...then I remembered just how agricultural most of us are, let alone Japan.
Maybe it's coz otaku culture, where I am most exposed to the culture, is high-tech, digitized, middle-class, urban, etc.
